GSMA and GUTMA released a new Reference Method for assessing Cellular C2 Link Performance and RF Environment Characterization for UAS.
In this video, Thomas Neubauer, VP of Innovation and Business Development at TEOCO and leader of the Work Task, which developed the paper, explains the key takeaways.
The document, which is the product of the Aerial Connectivity Joint Activity (ACJA), aims at supporting BVLOS drone operations at scale by characterising the performances of the cellular link for different operations and in different situations and geographical environments.
With this document, we have defined a global baseline for:
a) a unified setup and characterization of airborne RF characterization
b) MNOs to compare their airspace connectivity with others
c) performance benchmarking between different connectivity providers
d) identification of applicable minimum performance thresholds and MOPS for drone operations at scale
The Reference Method provides objective information about feasible technical capabilities to authorities.
