With the help of machine learning, computers can learn to do a task by themselves. This means it doesn't exactly follow the code written by humans but finds its own rules on how to behave in different situations and on different cases.
StyleGAN2 falls under the subtopic deep learning which refers to multi-layer neural networks. Neural networks mimic our brains. Many thousands of neurons are connected with each other, transfer signals to each other and can create a very complex decision making system.
This neural network is called StyleGAN2, created by Nvidia and open-sourced in 2019. It generates 1024x1024 pixel images, many results look 100% real. Given random input latents it can interpolate between the two and generate a transition from one human face to the other. The full 80 minutes were generated exactly this way.
