President Cyril Ramaphosa placed the country under Alert Level 4 lockdown with added restrictions in an effort to contain the third wave of COVID-19 infections. The President said the third wave is driven by the contagious Delta variant, which was first detected in India and has been detected in 5 SA provinces so far and, according to the WHO, in at least 85 countries.
