PS3 Red Light Fix (Disassemble) Part 1

This is a tutorial on how to Disassemble the PS3 system and start the Yellow Light or Red Light fix.

Step 1: Remove the hard drive cover and unscrew the little blue screw on the hard drive bay. Slide the hard drive forward towards the front of the PS3 and pull it out.

Step 2: on the same side of the PS3 where the hard drive was you'll see the little tap near the top of the PlayStation, remove the Sticker and use a torx screwdriver to remove the screw under the rubber tab. Slide the top cover of the PS3 off and place it aside.

Step 3: You will see 7 screws that are Phillips head. 6 are long and 1 is shorter than the others labeled with an "S" make sure that the smaller screw goes in that slot. After removing the screws, lift up from the back and slide the front off and up.

Step 4: Remove the Blue Ray Disc drive. Unplug the cable from the board and fold it up to the right and fold the tab holding the ribbon GENTLY and remove the disc drive.

Step 5: Remove the Power Supply. You will need to remove 6 screws, 3 in the front and 3 in the back. 1 of the screws is the ground and has a washer on it so make sure you use this screw for the ground only. Unplug the cord from the board and lift up on the power supply, now unplug the back cable and remove it.

Step 6: Remove the front board and Modem. There are 3 Screws here that are Phillips head and there are 2 on the front board and 1 on the Modem towards the back. On the front board relieve the tab GENTLY and remove the ribbon, lift up and left on the board and the same with the Modem and remove them.

Step 7: Remove bottom PS3 tray. You will see Screws marked with arrows, these are the screws you need to remove. They vary for every system but none the less remove these screws and if they differ in size mark on the plate cover with a marker so you know where they go. Once they are all unscrewed lift up from the back and remove the whole unit and relieve it from the bottom tray.

Step 8: Remove the Fan. There are 3 Screws that are Phillips head remove these screws and remove the Fan, Be sure to unplug it from the board.

Step 9: Remove metal Cover for the board. You will see two panels with 4 screws, this is the heat sync. Remove the 4 Phillips screws and remove the panels. After that you will notice taps on the side. relieve the tab and remove the top portion of the paneling. NOTE! there may be two more screws under the hard drive bay so if they are there be sure to remove them. Proceed to remove the bottom panel and expose the board.
