Institutional Reforms and Revolution Reversals. Reforming existing colonial institutions or pursuing a more revolutionary approach
The Pan-African Reading Club met to discuss Chapter 8 of "Defeating Dictators" by Dr. Ayittey, focusing on institutional reforms and revolution reversals. Participants, including Joan Joan, Tapuwa, Ifo, and others, engaged in a deep discussion about the challenges of implementing institutional reforms after removing dictators, particularly in African contexts. The conversation explored how colonial systems continue to influence African governance structures and the importance of moving beyond tribalism to address systemic issues. Members debated whether to focus on reforming existing colonial institutions or pursuing a more revolutionary approach to create fundamentally new systems that serve African interests. The group also discussed the need to shift away from using the term "tribes" to "nations" when referring to African communities, recognizing the historical and colonial connotations of the word "tribe."
