Why would you want to do this? 🤔

If you can’t (or don’t want to) turn your client into prone (whether due to pathology, comfort, or simply avoiding unnecessary repositioning), being able to treat both the anterior and posterior thigh in one position is incredibly valuable.

So how do you effectively access the hamstrings with your client in supine?

✨ Position the client’s hip and knee at 90 degrees
✨ Place their foot into the anterior portion of your shoulder (around the pectoralis major area)
✨ Stabilise the leg by placing your inside hand gently on their knee, applying light pressure into your shoulder for control

Applicators you can use:
✨ Soft fist
✨ Heel of the hand
✨ Forearm

⚠️ Pay close attention to your posture throughout.

This technique isn’t suitable for everyone at all times. Therapist–client size differences and individual presentation can be limiting factors. Always prioritise your body mechanics and never compromise your posture to make a technique “work.”
