Transcript: My name is Dayana Sedova. I am a Lead Data Analyst at Australian Spatial Analytics. Up until I was 17, I was a professional tennis player. I spent most of my time on the tennis court, but there was a problem. I had focus issues and I would be fine on the court when training, but once it would be time for me to compete, it was just almost impossible for me to focus.
Everyone thought that I just need to try harder, try better to concentrate, but I couldn't. I had to stop playing tennis when I got injuries and I decided to focus on my education. I was struggling a lot when studying due to the same focus issues. There was no such a thing as neurodiversity at that time.
Once I graduated, I was really dreaming about becoming a 3D artist. Probably sent around one hundred job applications and obviously didn't get much out of it. So it obviously affected my mental health significantly and I decided to take a break and that's when I discovered that I've got ADHD and a lot of things make so much sense to me.
So before I came to ASA, I did a little bit of everything to just try and earn money. I did deliveries, I did furniture assembly. ASA helped me a lot with the financial stability in terms of I know that I have
stable income and digital engineering is kind of a continuation of my passion. So the stars kind of aligned for me.
With neurodiversity, you can't just fix it. So you need to learn how to work with your struggles. I might struggle with communicating my words or I just need some space. ASA managers helped me by giving me time to learn. They were really patient with me and I know there are really strict deadlines for some of the projects but they are trying to prioritise people. So when you are structuring everything, it fits for everyone. A lot of people that I'm working with are here for a reason.
They were struggling at some point and just because of how passionate they are, they are now leaders, managers. They're doing all this cool work proving that neurodiversity is it's not only about disabilities. Everyone's different and they're not wrong or they're not weird. There is, again, no right or wrong.
There is just different.
