How an Architect became an Artist
Calicho Arevalo is an acclaimed artist based in NYC.
His work is on full display both on the streets and in the galleries of New York; recognizable by vivid colors, animal references and patterns of doodles.
Originally from Bogota Colombia, Calicho came to NYC to pursue architecture; his art only living in the sketchbook he carried while commuting to and fro work before catching the eye of someone with a Gallery show.
Calicho got a taste of the art world before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the city, during which time he began painting murals on the green plywood sheets that carpet the commercial construction zones throughout New York.
As restrictions eased and the vibrant city of New York was was revived, the artist CALICHO AREVALO emerged with his vibrancy and heritage on full display with his "Oro Puro" collection.
The mural in this video was completed January 30, 2024 in honor of Lunar New Year (the Year of the Dragon)
and is visible at 105 Chrystie Street NY, (grant Street subway terminal)
