Canada Goose Swimming
A swimming canada goose. The Canada goose is a goose from North America and Canada. The species can be found regularly; most of the time it is about escaped aviary and park birds. The species are often crosses with barnacle geese and small Canada geese. As a result, all kinds of mixed forms can be found, which sometimes make recognition somewhat more difficult.
They are a large brown-gray goose with a black neck and head. The most striking is the white spot in the neck. However, the appearance is quite variable and because of crossings with other species, surprising forms are produced sometimes.
Canada geese can be found in many different environments; from tundra's to semi-deserts. The only thing that really matters is that there is water.
Their diet is mainly vegetarian, but somewhat easier than other geese. There are observations of Canada geese who eat eggs and young terns and other 'animal proteins'. However, most food is sought in grasslands and fields, where the geese look for remains from harvesting.
