"Distant Memories (Piano Solo)" by Milana Zilnik
I never compose by writing notes on paper, neither in any notation software. All my compositions, even multi-instrumental ones, are born when my fingers touch the keys. I do write down some motifs and the list of harmonies, think about the structure.. but then I just touch the keys and play the whole piece... Except for these "Distant Memories". This was the first piece I wrote down note-by-note by hand from the first note and to the last one. It was a depressive winter, yet another lockdown, I wasn't in a good place and composing this piece was my escape.
And then it turned into an orchestral piece and we recorded it with live orchestra. And that was an extraordinary experience. But it all started from this very piano solo. Bare, yet turbulent.
