Repetition is a huge part of training for recruits. Drills last week focused on extinguishing a fuel fire. A fire is extinguished by directing the agent directly at the base of the fire, not the top of the flames. Winds should be at your back when attacking the fire. As you’ll see in the video practice makes progress. Each attempt provides unique learning opportunities for our recruits.

Remember the same rules that apply to our firefighters apply to the public as well. If it is safe to do so and someone is dialing 9-1-1, remember the acronym PASS when using an extinguisher:

1) Pull the pin
2) Aim at the base of the fire
3) Squeeze the handle
4) Sweep the nozzle from side to side
