There’s no better way to learn how to write than to consume that which has already been written and learn from it. Today we’re going to try to learn from Hideaki Anno and Neon Genesis Evangelion by watching an episode from the series and analyzing it through the lens of the Kishotenketsu storytelling format.
The Kishōtenketsu story structure is basically to Eastern storytelling what the "Three Act Structure" is to Western stories. It's commonly used to great effect in many of the manga and anime that we all enjoy every day, and that's why understanding it can be a valuable tool for anyone who dreams of writing their own stories.
