About the topic: Many of us must have heard that plants make food through Photosynthesis. This process requires only a few things: carbon dioxide, water, light, and essential minerals. It also releases gas (oxygen) as a waste product during this process. But did you know that by doing a very simple experiment, we can see the gas (oxygen) released by plants and find out what factors affect Photosynthesis?
In this leaf disc experiment, we will learn:
Understanding the production of gases during Photosynthesis
Understanding the importance of light during Photosynthesis
Understanding the importance of carbon dioxide during Photosynthesis
Materials:
For a group of 5 students :
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) 4gm (we will dissolve it in 100 ml water)
Water 100ml
Liquid dish soap (a few drops)
Plastic straw
Three 10-mL syringes (without a needle)
Spinach leaves or any plant leaf
Clear plastic cup or Glass beaker 250 mL-2
Light Source/ table lamp: 100W incandescent bulb
