The Bravery of Speaking Out as an Engineer when things just don’t seem right or logical - clip from our latest Boeing Starliner update (EP353 👉🏼 link in bio for full ep)
We reviewed some of the courage and bravery of reports like Eric Berger and rocket scientists like Jordan Noonan who have spoken out about Starliner’s issues, despite the risks. We felt it was critical to explain why it’s important to fight for the truth and bring up concerns, even if you’re the only one noticing them. Embrace the challenges of being an engineer, and when the time calls to speak up - make sure you do! There might be plenty of other people who think the same thing but just need the extra push to speak up.
We get it, you don’t want to lose your job for flippantly speaking out of turn - but this is human space flight. People’s lives are at risk, always. Even in the best #spacecraft. The conundrum is that also increases how intense speaking up might be. Follow the data, question everything, and speak up when it’s time to. We need you - and we thank all the people who have for this flight test. In a large part it’s due to them that this issue has not been swept under the rug, even though it would be so easy to do so.
