Recently one of the drawers in my kitchen broke because although the face frames and drawer faces are made from solid hardwood, the rest of the cabinets and drawers are made from cheap particle board. This drawer was stuffed with way too many utensils and the new drawer will definitely have to be strong enough to withstand the weight.
I reused the original drawer face and constructed the sides of the drawer out of some 5/8" plywood and the bottom out of 1/4 plywood. I used pocket holes and glue for added support.
