What Haven’t Been Said about the Pioneering French Electronic Dance Music Group Daft Punk. One Of The Greatest musical duos of all time, everlasting branding, Commercial success, and Critical success. To Be Fair with you guys it’s pretty hard to say what is Daft Punk’s centerpiece machine but to start off our list is the Emu SP 1200, The ASR 10, The AKAI S01, The E-MU Emulator III, ROLAND S-760, The LINN LinnDRUM, The TR-707, The TR 808, and The TR-909 to round up their early use of Samplers and Drum Machines. The Group posted the list of the Equipment they used to make discovery. In most of the videos I make this would be the end of the video but Daft punk truly uses a lot of equipment to create the music they’re looking to accomplish. The next Machines that Daft Punk used is The MPC 3000, ASR X, Linndrum 9000, LM1, and the Sequential Circuits Drumtraks. They mention using them in an article with a Japanese magazine in 2001. Daft Punk Used the Oberheim DMX and the Linndrum a lot on their Discovery album. In an interview with Remix mag Thomas said We used an Oberheim DMX and a Linn drum a lot. There is a Sequential Circuits Drum Tracks on “Short Circuit.” It's not like we're going against what other people are doing. We're just opening up the music to new ideas. The instrument itself is not as important as the way we use it. Instruments come with certain instructions in the manual, and many people can't look beyond those rules. People ask us why we like to use vocoders or electric keyboards from the '60s, but to us instruments are just tools. The idea is more important than the instrument. One of the cool things about the house music spirit is that it inspired musicians to use instruments for things they weren't designed to do.” The Oberheim DMX is a sleeper Drum machine that have been on a fair share of hit records and classic albums throughout the years. Daft Punk are self proclaimed vintage synth connoisseurs and they used a lot of them. In this interview with Peter Franco & Mick Guzauski (The Mixing and Recording Engineers on Random Access Memories) in sound on sound he said “Thomas and Guy-Man had a bunch of keyboards during these early sessions, like the [Sequential Circuits] Prophet 5, [Roland] Jupiter 6, Juno 106, Yamaha CS80. The synth arpeggio in the Giorgio Moroder track was one of the ideas we recorded during these first sessions, with layers of that arpeggio played via MIDI through different synths to create that great sound. Guy-Man and Thomas are masters at manipulating gear and getting great vibes from it. These were great, fun and very loose writing sessions, and to my surprise quite a bit of the themes and even some of the parts ended up on the final mixes.” The next synthesizers Daft Punk used is the Moog Minimoog Voyager Rack. Thomas of Daft Punk wrote to Studio Electronics to tell them how much he enjoyed the Omega 8 in which he said "here is a quick note to tell you my first impressions about the machine you made for me. i've just tried it deeply today for a few hours, and i must thank you very much as i've finally found in the omega 8 a synthesizer that can match the quality and musicality (even maybe surpass) and probably replace for now my only favorite synthesizers Yamaha Cs-60 & 80's (i had never heard something so warm and modern at the same time - i like the vintage idea, but when it's an opportunity to take what's good from the past and push it forward to the future). i was forced to get rid of some of my too-hard-to-maintain dinosaur synths anyway and i must confess i was delivered a long awaited steinway&sons model L from 1911 (some metal parts of it were molded in 1885 !) to my studio just today. i've put both 'instruments' next to each other, they match with style and elegance: glossy black was the right choice…”. Ed Banger posted an Instagram picture with him producing back in the day and stated “Additional Geek Note: That E-Mu Orbit [9090] was a present from my dear Daft robots. They used it to produce •Oh Yeah• on their first album”.
