The entire continent will see at least a partial solar eclipse on April 8th. With shortages of solar filters, all of us can do an ad hoc pinhole projection method using household utensils to see the Moon eclipsing the Sun into solar crescents. Crescents can be observed on the ground by leaves, fences, or even criss-crossing your fingers. But a colander, ladle or cheese grater will do, as well, as demonstrated this morning live on WPIX-TV with Hazel Sanchez and Dan Mannarino.
