Welcome back to the Bohemia Bees channel! In this video, join us as we take advantage of a brief warm spell in January to check on our bee colonies during the winter months. Despite the unseasonably mild temperatures, we're mindful that winter still has its grip on us, with 4-6 weeks remaining. It's crucial to approach hive inspections with caution during this time, respecting the delicate balance of the colony's winter survival.

On this particular day, with temperatures hovering in the high 50s to low 60s, our bees took advantage of the break in weather to perform cleansing flights, a reassuring sign of their health and vitality.

Living on the eastern shore of Maryland, we're attuned to the unique challenges our bees face. We recommend fellow beekeepers to closely observe bee activity and hive volume during these winter months, ensuring they aren't falling victim to robbing. Checking the weight of the hive is essential; if stores are dwindling, it's time to intervene. We advise adding supplemental dry sugar or fondant, like Hive Alive, to bolster their resources and help them weather the remaining weeks of winter.

Join us as we navigate the intricacies of winter beekeeping, ensuring the well-being of our beloved pollinators. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share your own winter beekeeping tips in the comments below!

Please be aware that the content within this channel is produced, edited, and shared by Jason Crook, the proprietor and operator. Possessing nearly a decade of expertise in beekeeping as a Master Certified Beekeeper accredited by the University of Montana, Jason takes pleasure in imparting his insights to the community. It's important to recognize that beekeeping methodologies can diverge based on the local milieu, and the videos showcased on the Bohemia Apiary channel spotlight strategies tailored to Jason's specific bee colonies, rather than offering universal directives. While the principles addressed in these videos garner general approval from numerous beekeepers, it's equally imperative to lend an ear, make observations, and glean knowledge from your own bees as well as other beekeeping resources.

In Jason's own words, "Beekeeping is more than a hobbee, it's an obsession."
