10 Diving Monterey Bay
The Captain dropped me for a dive right in front of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and it didn't disappoint! SCUBA diving is definitely my happy place, cruising along looking for the keystone structure that fish congregate around. These cute bedrock and boulder piles provide great habitat for Rockfishes, one of the most diverse group of fish found throughout the whole Pacific Ocean. I can talk about Rockfish ALLLLL day, and any dive I get to see new species of fish is a good dive!
Some of my favourite shots in here are the ones with the Rockfish aggregating in areas where the plankton also collects. It was years into surveying rockfish size and abundances before fishermen informed me that Rockfish are lazy, look for spots where they can tuck out of the current or swell and just chill.
