Marion Huber Learning Through Listening® Awards winner and high school senior, Micah from State College, #Pennsylvania, shares how her learning differences created challenges for her in school and how Learning Ally was the tool she needed to achieve academically. #dyslexia #assistivetechnology #audiobooks

Micah is a bright young teen with lots going on, but growing up she wasn’t reading and writing like other kids. By the time she reached middle school, she could not complete her reading assignments, and her frustration mounted. In eighth grade, after years of angst, her parents requested testing, but the test was inconclusive and Micah did not receive the extra reading support she desperately needed. Then the pandemic happened and Micha’s reading anxiety spiraled. “It was difficult to read more than a handful of pages and understand what I read,” she said. “My mom read the books to me and then reviewed them for comprehension. I hated being forced to sit and read. It took so much effort and energy out of me.”
Finally diagnosed with a learning disability and autism, Micha was given access to Learning Ally. “It was a gamechanger,” she said. “I love how the audiobooks are narrated and words are highlighted sentence by sentence. I rarely get lost now when I’m reading. I like that I can control the device functions like rate of reading pace and highlighting colors. Listening to learn through Learning Ally audiobooks is such a relief. I’m so much happier now.”
