This film is set in the 90s to the millennial era. For those who have experienced times of love in that era, you know how it feels. Of course it's nostalgic. Especially with the retro atmosphere. In Indonesia, retro is like eating at a roadside angkringan together. Take a walk to the night market. Take a vespa or honda 70 around the city. Watch a dimly lit movie if you live in the city, if you live in a village, you might watch a tantap screen or a puppet show while eating boiled peanuts.
The original title is tune in for love.
Matchmaking doesn't go anywhere even though there are many obstacles that may be suitable to describe this Korean film, tune in for love. Tune in for love tells the story of a woman who runs a bakery named Misu, and a man named Yunwo who has trauma in the past. Their relationship is often on and off, because of their respective circumstances. The story of tune in for love began in 1994 when Yunwo, played by Jung Hae In, went to Misu's bakery, played by Kim Go Eun, to buy white tofu. Yunwo, a teenager who had just been released, stopped by the bakery that happened to be Misu's. He was looking for something to commemorate his release. Misu, who inherited the bakery from her late mother, and managed it with her cook Unja, could not fulfill Yunwo's request. He also suggested looking for it at the convenience store at the crossroads. Misu and Unja suspect that Yunwo just got out of prison, considering that eating white tofu is a tradition for Korean prison inmates when they breathe free air.
In 1997, when the whole country was hit by a financial crisis, the devastating economic effects it had had on Misu and her bakery business went bankrupt. However, Misu managed to finish her education in college, mainly thanks to the help of Unja who was like a brother to her. For years he helped with Misu's tuition fees. For Misu, Unja is the figure of an older sister who is like her own mother. After returning from Unja's shop, Misu took the time to visit his bakery, which had gone bankrupt. Unexpectedly, he met Yunwo who was carrying an exhausted grandmother he met on the street. After dropping grandmother off at her house, Yunwo returned to the bakery to meet Misu. They talked all the way to take Misu home. The two of them separated after Misu reached the front of the house. Misu, who seemed unable to let Yunwo go, tried to buy time. However, the unfavorable situation forced them to separate at that time.
