WHAT functions are EQUAL to their derivative?
In this short math video, we PROVE RIGOROUSLY that there is no function other than the exponential function (or a constant multiple of it) that is equal to its own derivative. The proof technique is really simple but creative and very helpful to know for advanced mathematical thinking and also to practice with the quotient rule for differentiation. Therefore, the exponential function is really special in calculus.
