Characters in Focus: An Author's Insight on Character Creation
Join our guest authors as they share their creative journeys, inspirations, and writing processes, followed by an engaging Q&A session. This program will be presented by local literary artist Surabhi Kaushik, in collaboration with the South Boulevard Library staff.
Meet the Author: Leslie Hooton Leslie Hooton’s most recent novel After Everyone Else, the sequel to Before Everyone Else, won an Indie Book Award. It was published by Turner in June 2022. Her second novel, The Secret of Rainy Days garnered an Indie Book Award for Southern Fiction. (Turner Publishing 2021). Her debut novel Before Anyone Else (Turner Publishing, 2020), received a Zibby nomination. Leslie’s essays have been published in Newsweek, Zibby Magazine, and Women Writers, Women’s Books. Her books have been featured in Brit + Co, The Mary Reader, and other outlets. Leslie often remarks that while some people have a stroke of luck, she had a stroke at birth. The limited use of her right side and numerous surgeries have allowed a unique perspective that she brings to her writing. Leslie uses dictation and often jokes “I haven’t typed a single word." She resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Meet the Author: Sreya Sarkar Sreya Sarkar is a public policy analyst, journalist, and author. She worked in public policy research and advocacy in U.S. think tanks and non-profits before becoming a freelance writer with her fingers dipped in multiple fiction and non-fiction projects. She contributes political and social articles for Indian and U.S. news magazines like The Wire, Scroll, and American Kahani. Originally hailing from Kolkata, she nurtured a wish to write from an early age. Her short stories have been published in Indian literary magazines including Indian Ruminations and The Space Ink. Sreya currently lives in Sudbury, Massachusetts with her spouse and teenage son. Her debut novel, Beneath the Veneer, was released earlier this year.
Meet the Author: Dr. Aparna Salvi Nagda Dr. Aparna Salvi Nagda is a consulting homeopath by profession and writer by passion. Her short stories have won a place in ten anthologies, while her blogs have found a home on websites like Mompresso, Youth Ki Awaz, The She Saga, WomensWeb, and also the The Times Of India Readers blog. The Labyrinth Of Silence is her debut novel, published by Vishwakarma Publications and was released earlier this year. When she is not writing, she is either treating patients, teaching biology at Genius Academy or volunteering for the Goonj Foundation. She lives in Mumbai, India.
