Threshold | Super 8mm Short Film | Competition Quality | Straight 8
Threshold is an 8 mm short film about a man (played by Christian Freund) who wants to find out what happens after death.
It was shot chronologically without editing on a single Super 8 cardridge. Only practical in-camera effects were used. The dark drama celebrated world premiere during the 70th International Cannes Film Festival in 2017. It was the only German entry among seven other 8-mm films.

PRODUCTION
Shot in Essen and the Ruhr area, for the Straight 8 competition 2017 in London.
#Straight8 is a #8mm #ShortFilm competition where 136 teams from all over the world took part in 2017. The challenge was to make a short film on a single #Super8 cartridge. Without post production - chronologically.
What a thrill when each scene is prepared for hours and finally can be recorded only once.
For our short I have opened up the trick-box of the old masters: #SchüfftanProcess, #DoubleExposure, rear projection and #MattePainting. All of them well 100 years old tricks from the times before After Effects.
The soundtrack was created “blind” by the composer Fabian Beeren and delivered as an audio file.
Among all entries, eight films were selected by a distinguished jury to celebrate world premiere in #Cannes – during the 70th International Cannes Film Festival! Whether it has worked out, the participating teams from all over the world, saw their films for the very first time – together with the audience.
