Dowsing - Learn to dowse - dowsing practice
If you have been following these videos in sequence then you’ll remember that in the second one I asked you to find earth energy lines and spirals. For some new to dowsing that’s a big ask because I am asking you to trust your results when you haven’t really learned to be able to do that. So one of the more practical ways of building up your confidence is to practice in the way that I am going to show you now - practice on real-world stuff.

Stuff like bamboo poles. all you have to do is to pop one or two on the ground and then take a few paces back. Like the very first question that I got you to ask, which was “Am I standing up?” in this exercise you already know the answer to your dowsing question because you can see it. BUT we do this so that you can pay attention and be mindful of how you feel inside as the rods respond. So this is the start of the process for you of REALLY dowsing properly which is to NOT focus on the rods but to put all your attention inside in to your inner world so that you are completely focused on what you are looking for by holding it in your mind as clearly as you possibly can. You focus on what you are looking for not on the rods. If necessary build a sensory picture for yourself: think about the texture of the cane, how does it feel in your hands, if you have a strong sense of smell, what does it smell like? How heavy or light is it? When you drop it on the ground what sort of sound does it make? Obviously to do this best you want to have settled your mind and ideally done a little meditative practice in order to focus precisely on what you are looking for.

Once you are ready to dowse for the cane, focus on it IN YOUR MIND where it is lying on the ground in front of you and not on your rods. Relax your shoulders and hold the rods out in front of you like a pair of six-shooters and say to “yourself” or the universe whichever you prefer show me when I step over the garden cane. And then start to step forward gently.

What you will find is that your rods will move as you step over the cane. They most likely will come together like this. Now the first time you do it, don’t stop walking forward if they don’t move as you cross the cane just keep focused on the intention of finding the cane uppermost in your mind and keep moving forward a few more paces. Then after a few paces, If nothing has happened relax come out of the mind state that you were in and try again.

The most important thing in this exercise is that you start to focus on your inner experience and don’t worry if the rods don’t move first time. If you are used to meditating then this idea of focussing inside won’t be new to you but if you don’t yet meditate then this may need a bit of practice. Ideally you should ONLY be having thoughts about the thing that you are looking for and nothing else. Most people that aren’t used to meditating do need a few goes at this before the rods respond. And remember that in the first instance the response you get from the rods might just be the tip of one rod moving ever so slowly but keep at it and keep practicing as they will move and once they start to they will just get stronger and stronger each time as you build your confidence.

It’s also quite common that the rods don’t respond until AFTER you have stepped over the cane. That’s OK to start with, what you will find is that your rods will get more and more accurate. Try thinking about the fact that you want the response to occur directly beneath the handle of the rods. Just accept whatever repose you get for the time being so that you don’t beat yourself up for getting it wrong. It’s not about right or wrong at this stage.

Once you have got a response that feels like a strongish action and is fairly accurate then have a go at dowsing something like a rope or in this case hosepipe. This time try just using one rod. Its exactly the same as using two but does mean you can be a little bit more flexible in what you’re doing. Lay out a snake type shape on the ground, focus your mind on the rope or hosepipe as you did for the garden cane and approach it from an angle. The rod will move when you are over it.

Once you’re standing over the rope, just align your arm that is holding the dowsing rod directly over it. Focus on the rope or hosepipe ask to be shown the direction to follow it along its length and simply follow the direction that the rod points you in. As you walk you will find it changes direction. Don’t force the rod to move obviously and don’t focus your attention on the rods, just be aware of where it is pointing and follow it. You may find that you have to pause for a moment at a bend to allow the rod to catch up but eventually it will all speed up and flow better.
