Tour du Mont Blanc [2024]

In July, Nilufa & I completed a thru-hike of the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB), a 110-mile trail that circumnavigates Mont Blanc through the Italian, Swiss, and French Alps.
We started and ended in Courmayeur, Italy instead of the more common option of Les Houches in France and hiked counter-clockwise. Our adventure took us 10 days to complete, which allowed for plenty of time to enjoy the restaurants and towns along the way.
At over 15,000 feet, Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and stands as the visual centerpiece for the entirety of the TMB.
The TMB is a heavily community-based thru hike given the prevalence of towns, refuges, and other amenities. But what the TMB lacks in solitude, it more than makes up for in its jaw-dropping beauty, rugged climbs, and unmatched food (and wine). If social hikes are your thing, you'll love the towns and refuges. We instead opted for the less social (and cheaper) option of camping.
Aside from a few days of rain, we were quite fortunate with warm, clear weather. At the high passes, most of the snow/ice had gone too. There were sketchy sections, but nothing that required us to use spikes.
Viewers who make it past the 4-minute mark will also notice that we got engaged on this hike! I couldn't have imagined a more beautiful setting for an engagement, and I look forward to many more adventures with my fiancee :)
