Basic meteorite characteristics:
1. Dark (or rusty) fusion crust
2. Usually smooth fusion surface with regmaglypts
3. Meteorites are heavier than rocks of the same size
4. A magnet reacts and sticks to meteorites
5. A metal detector reacts to the meteorite
6. Stony meteorites have chondrules and shiny iron particles in cross-section
7. Iron meteorites reveal shapes after surface etching
