Silvia Picozzi: "Spin-orbit coupling: an endless source of complex magnetism"
Silvia Picozzi is a professor at CNR Spin and Universitá “G. D’Annunzio” Chieti-Pescara where she leads the group "MOdeling and DEsign of functional Materials". Besides her long trajectory as a researcher in the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche she has frequently visited various international centers such as Northwestern University, Forschungszentrum Jülich and University of California at Santa Barbara and has acted as a consultant for Quantum Materials Design.
Silvia is an expert on material modeling, mostly based on density functional theory, that she has applied to many different systems including semiconductor interfaces, organic crystals, diluted magnetic semiconductors and multiferroics. She is mainly active in the field of cross coupling phenomena with the focus on discovering and optimizing microscopic mechanisms involved in multifunctional materials.
