PoE terminals/Powered Devices are electronic devices that depend on a Power Sourcing Equipment as a means of obtaining DC power to function. Common PoE terminals on a computer network include a WiFi Access Point, an IP phone, and an IP camera.
A PoE terminal may support other means of obtaining DC power, however, the use of the PoE simplifies this process as the same transmission media used for data communications can carry the power required to start the device. The network operator must ensure that the power supplied by the port on which this PoE terminal is connected is equal or greater than its power rating.
