Hi there! :D
Welcome to the big finale of our annual Countdown to Halloween! The Big Day ™ is almost upon us and worry not, you will not have to spend the spooky night alone. Joining us today is Victor Deshayes from Dead by Daylight!
This project has been on my list ever since I first saw the concept art for the Twins. I've just never really felt confident enough in my skills to really pull it off. Making a mask is a whole different ball game than building a little humanoid crawling out of you. Not to mention that sculpting the face is much more detailed than with a adult-sized mask.
After some more masks and other projects to build up experience, I decided that now is as good a time as ever to start :D
And what can I say, this project tried to beat my butt any way possible lol.
It was a mess from start to finish, added probably by some difficult caregiving days going on. The biggest problem areas were the smaller left hand and the straps. The hand just didn't want to look good, so in the end I removed it and did a night shift to make a completely new hand.
Learn from my mistake and craft the wrist of the left hand from packing paper, then add the hand. This way, it's much less bulky and it doesn't hang down too low.
As for the straps – look, sewing just doesn't like me. It's not mutual, I would love to sew nice things, but it's just not happening. I will keep trying but realistically, it's just not for me. Can't do everything, I guess :D So, it took me a few tries to get it done.
Anyway, I think regardless of my lack of sewing skill, the two straps came out well and are fairly comfortable to wear.
Again, learn from my mistakes and make the closures in an area where you can easily reach them lol
Aside from that, my main concern with this project was the weight. Assuming that it's a cosplay piece, it would be worn for hours at a time. And it only sits on one side of the body, which can easily cause soreness and discomfort even with seemingly lightweight builds. So I set out to collect many super light materials, like styrofoam blocks from packaging and joghurt cups.
If you don't have access to plastics like those, you can also build the whole body from twisted packing paper, but I suggest you build it hollow as well.
I think this project would also have been great as a thrift flip or similar, where a approproately sized baby doll found their end and/or new beginning. But we don't do that here (because I have no thrift store nearby and flea markets are still closed where I live). It is trash or nothing :P
Since I've struggled with the right acrylic paint mixture for a long time:
lots of white with a bit of yellow, red and brown makes a great skin tone. Mix in a tiny bit of grey to make it look sickly.
Alright, that shall be it for Halloween 2022! I hope you had fun, found some inspiration or just some creepy content to pass the time until the candy hunt begins.
A very tentative plan for the rest of the year will see one or maybe two videos in November and one or maybe two videos in December. One each is already done filming, the other one per each month is on the list.
I'll definitely award myself with a week of Minecraft before I dive back into the craft dungeon :D
See you again very soon, take care, have fun being creepy, and don't forget to like and subscribe to help me out!
