Most of the people are actually ruining their PC's SSD with this default setting of 7Z software. 7Z, by default stores the temporary files in your PC's main internal SSD. Let me first explain why and how these temporary files are ruining your SSD. If you already know the reason, you can safely skip this portion of the video by using the timestamps in the video description. By the way, if you don't have an external USB Flash Drive then this video is NOT for you, however if you want to save your SSD then you should watch the video and should buy an external USB Flash Drive. Now let's start the topic. So, as I said 7Z, by default stores its temporary files in your main SSD. 7Z is a file achieving software, which in many cases are used for compressing and decompressing large files like a 2 GB video or a 10 or 20 GB compressed zip file. When you start compressing or decompressing a file, 7Z stores the temporary files, which are of size either equal to or even more than the size of your file. For compressing and decompressing a 10 GB file, 7Z will write either equal to or more than 10 GB of temporary data in your main SSD. Now if you know, SSD's have limited amount of TBW which means Total Bytes Written which usually ranges between 300 TBW to 700 TBW in consumer grade laptops. That means for compressing or decompressing large files, your SSD's total write amount will be consumed unnecessarily. To save your SSD, you can change the storage location of temporary files from your SSD to an external USB Flash Drive since USB Flash Drives are more affordable. However, please note that if your USB Flash Drive is too slow, then you will notice slower compression and decompression. For that I have given some links of USB Flash Drives in the description below, but if you already have a decent USB Flash Drive you don't need to buy another one.
