In recent years, we have seen the increasingly frequent introduction of minimally invasive monitoring systems based on arterial pulse contour analysis. Some of these systems require cardiac output calibration through thermodilution (PiCCO) or peripheral injection of lithium chloride (LiDCO plus), while others rely on demographic and anthropometric data systems for calibration (FloTrac). Cardiac output data is obtained through complex algorithms, based on the fact that arterial pulse pressure is directly proportional to stroke volume and inversely related to arterial compliance.
