Vision is a critical aspect of any automation project. Utilizing a vision system in automation gives your machine eyes, providing feedback on the process to ensure it is working correctly. It provides insights and information about the quality of products being produced that can be used for current and future improvements.
The introduction of AI has benefited vision systems, filling a common training gap. The operator of the system is able to provide training information to an AI tool which can then learn the system and duplicate what the operator did and apply it to the automation system. While AI is a great tool for vision, it is still only used for validation in 10% of projects.
If you are looking to apply vision systems to an automation project, know that it can take time to get right. Vision systems can always be modified to get the information needed. Vision systems are flexible and can be altered on both the software and hardware side to collect data and information you can work with and adapt over time.
