Isaac Newton (1643-1727) was an English mathematician, physicist, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian. He is widely recognised as one of the most influential scientists of all time and as a key figure in the scientific revolution. Newton developed the theories of gravity, motion, optics, and calculus, and was the first to explain the law of universal gravitation. He also invented the reflecting telescope. His work on optics also led to the first practical reflecting telescope, the development of colour theory, and the first explanation of why the sky is blue. His book, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, is considered to be the most influential book in the history of science. Newton also made important contributions to the study of the nature of light, the development of calculus, and the development of the laws of motion. He is also known for his contributions to the field of alchemy and for his religious views. Newton’s work allowed him to be knighted by Queen Anne in 1705. He was buried in Westminster Abbey.
