Lennox Lewis - Smashing people since 1989
Lennox Lewis (born September 2, 1965) is a retired British-Canadian professional boxer who competed from 1989 to 2003. He is a three-time world heavyweight champion, a two-time lineal champion, and remains the last heavyweight to hold the undisputed title. He is also a British cultural icon and remains the most recent British world heavyweight champion, having held the WBC, IBF, and lineal titles from 1992 to 2000.
Lewis won a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, making him a national hero. He turned professional in 1989, and in 1991 he won the European heavyweight title and the British Commonwealth heavyweight title. In 1992, he defeated Donovan Ruddock for the WBC heavyweight title and was later named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine. In 1993, he successfully defended his titles against Frank Bruno, and in 1994 he defeated Razor Ruddock in a rematch.
In 1997, Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in a historic fight to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He successfully defended his titles against Shannon Briggs, Michael Grant, and David Tua. In 2002, he defeated Mike Tyson in a highly anticipated fight and retired in 2003. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2009.
