Test Your Skills as a Conductor at Mendelssohn Haus Effektorium Leipzig
If you've ever wondered what it's like to conduct an orchestra you can find out at the Mendelssohn Haus Museum in Leipzig, a museum dedicated to showcasing the life and work of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
The Effektorium is a fun installation on the ground floor of the Mendelssohn-Haus where you can take the conductor's stand complete with a digital score and face a virtual orchestra of 13 speakers set on stands in front of you.
Each speaker represents a different section of the orchestra (or choir) that you can conduct. You can choose to conduct several different orchestral or choral works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and then your baton controls the tempo of the performance. You can also control the volume of different groups of instruments to fine tune the performance or tune into particular voices, creating your own personal vision of Mendelssohn's work.
It's great fun, educational and a real challenge.
