Liquid wallpaper, or decorative silk plaster - finishing finishing material, which is an alternative to more familiar wallpaper or paint. Finishing with liquid wallpaper allows you to create a unique individual design. The surface with liquid wallpaper is quite reliable in operation: the coating does not diverge at the seams, does not fall off, bubbles do not appear on it. Applying liquid wallpaper is a fairly simple process, but it has its own characteristics when preparing the surface and applying.

Stage 1. Surface preparation

One of the stages of successful repair using liquid wallpaper is the proper preparation of the walls.

The surface must be dry, clean, monotonous, without foreign spots.

First of all, the surface should be cleaned from the old coating, cleaned off the outgoing plaster and paint. Nails and screws can simply be removed.

If there are large irregularities or cracks on the surface, they can be leveled using a finishing putty.

The next important stage of preparation is the primer treatment. Moisture from liquid wallpaper should not penetrate into the wall, otherwise it may cause yellow spots on the already applied coating. It is for this purpose that the moisture insulator is used. This type of primer is designed to create a protective layer between the surface and wallpaper.

After the surface is completely dry, you can apply water-based paint (or to the tone of future wallpaper) on it - it will add adhesion (adhesion) and create a uniform background. When the surface is completely dry, you can proceed to the next stage of work.

Stage 2. Preparation of liquid wallpaper

the water in which the wallpaper is bred must be clean and warm (25–35 ° C); - the amount of water for different types of wallpaper may vary, manufacturers indicate this information in the instructions on the package; - in the case of using decorative additives or spangles, you first need to add them to the water, mix and only then pour the wallpaper, after shaking them;

Thoroughly mix the mixture with hands until homogeneous, so that there are no clots or lumps (use of a mixer for mixing is unacceptable, since it can change the texture of the wallpaper);

Fold the resulting mass into the bag and leave for 12 hours to soak all the ingredients evenly.

After 12 hours, the liquid wallpaper is ready for application. In this state, they can be stored for up to two weeks. If necessary, already diluted wallpaper can be dried and re-diluted.

Stage 3. Application

For application it is convenient to use a transparent plastic grater (through it you can immediately see how the material is distributed over the surface). When applied, the grater should be positioned at an angle of 10–15 ° to the surface. It is recommended to apply liquid wallpaper with a thin layer of 1.5–2 mm in movements similar to spreading butter on bread.

When applied, the material looks more transparent as it has a paper base. After drying, the wallpaper will become opaque. The consumption indicated by the manufacturer on the package is calculated, as a rule, on the basis of a layer thickness of 1.5–2 mm. If the material is poorly applied, you can add some more water. Using small portions, liquid wallpapers stretch across the surface, thus creating a seamless coating. The resulting coating dries up to two days - the drying time depends on the thickness of the applied layer and the humidity in the room. Airing the room during the drying process is recommended. The remaining wallpaper after repair is dried and stored for possible fragmentary repair.

Fragment repair

In case of mechanical damage or stubborn dirt, you can easily restore the damaged area. Moisten the damaged or contaminated place with water, wait a bit, remove the required area from the surface, and in its place apply new wallpaper.

Additional tips:

To use liquid wallpaper in wet areas, for example, in the kitchen, you need to cover them with acrylic varnish after complete drying, then they can be washed, and they will not absorb water. - Liquid wallpaper should not be used in small bathrooms, because Wallpaper absorbs moisture, so all the time will be wet. - If after applying the liquid wallpaper appeared yellow spots, you can easily get rid of them with the help of ordinary household liquid bleach. Dilute 1: 2 bleach with water and apply to the stains using a spray bottle, after a while the stain will disappear.
