Tolland Voluntary Fire Department Skillset Training Event.
Compeditive environment drill for team building, communications, critical thinking, and assessment evaluation for lesson’s learned
At sound of Engine 3’s horn, the time trials begin.
1. Dress into Firefighting PPE suits Board Engine 3 and don (put-on) Air Pack and Helmet
2. At destination deploy Hoses and Spray Nozzle.
3. Open Spray Nozzle and advance forward to marker cone.
4. Grab Ventilation Fan from Engine 3, setup at fire station’s backside bay and turn-on Fan
5. Run around outside to front of fire station's front bay area and perform Ladder crossing task.
6. Perform “confined space” crawl through Culvert Pipe, followed by 10 sledgehammer strikes to wood log.
7. Ladder Climb, touching top ladder rung and backdown off the Ladder, then proceed to PPE Equipment doffing (take-off), which stops the clock and time recorded for that team.
Entire event is reset and performed for each two-person team.
Jr Firefighters also participated and were mentored by Chief Munson.
Teamwork, Communication, Equipment Management, Technique, Physical strength, and endurance were all part of the training competitive exercise.
The team that won got two nice restaurant vouches..... Remember, these are volunteer firefighters, so proud of our town and those that participate in the community services. Thanks!
