I work on a Navy ship operated by civilian mariners and our job is to keep the Navy fleet supplied with fuel, food and equipment. I am also one of the two qualified “US Navy Rescue Swimmers” on the ship and we are always in the water to make sure everyone stays safe.
When COVID started effecting the world; it was of the upmost importance that us civilians working on these ship do not catch COVID. All of these type of ships that support the fleet were put on lock down; No one was aloud to leave the ship at all.
At the time of this “Swim Call” most of us had not been off this ship for 9 months. The Captain decided to let everyone take a break and swim in the ocean and it helped to relieve a lot of tension that everyone was feeling after being locked up on the ship for so long.
This swim lasted most of the day because we only aloud small groups on to the boats at a time and we had several groups swim that day. It was a big help for our moral on the ship thanks to our captain.
