Making Space for Great Crested Newts: the District Level Licensing Scheme - a Natural History Live by Rachel Davies

Please note, videos are played during this presentation. Due to this being a recording of a live event, therefore the videos are of a reduced quality. Direct links to the original videos are provided below.

In this talk, hear about one of the ways great crested newts are being protected in the UK: the District Level Licensing Scheme, which is operated under Natural England to create and restore pond habitat for great crested newts across England.

The UK population of great crested newts is of international importance. Great crested newts have experienced massive decline over the last century, largely due to destruction of their habitat. They are now legally protected in British and European law.

Rachel Davies joined Lancashire Wildlife Trust in February 2023 as a Ponds Officer. Her role is to deliver the District Level Licensing Scheme in Lancashire. Rachel formerly worked at the Field Studies Council as a BioLinks Project Officer.
