PROCESSES: Double click the padlock in the layers window, till you have a box with a tick in it. This means you can edit the image.

Use the eraser with a large brush to chop off and segment or cut out the main image, then use the wand tool to select and delete the surrounding waste background.

Next; Zoom in close and use the lasso tool to finely stitch your way the perimeter of the main image outline, then pull away and box round the remaining visible segments of unwanted background to come round back to the start of the lasso tools start point.

Once you have lasso'd a section, (it appears to stand out a little), now press delete on your keyboard to remove that section.

Repeat lasso tool process all round the remaining image.

WHY?
You might want to remove the background from an image, if you are making the image into an overlay, to blend it into another image or superimpose it over another image.

You can make up a montage to tell a story or show a timeline, maybe even to stitch a panorama together. I make overlays, so that I can use them in creating banners for myself and my clients.

It is often easier to outsource this work though, as it is repetitive and can take a long while to accomplish. I would rather just hand someone the images and tell them which items I want pulled from the images, the next day it is done!

I basically made one video a day for this short series, taking all the pictures on one morning session, with the intention that I would show the progression of the original images into a banner or header for a web page.

Here we are using PIXLR again to edit an image.

You can use many different image editor tools to do this kind of work as most do the same or similar things these days. The beauty and attraction of PIXLR is that it is free. (My favourite four letter word).
