I'm no whiz with PIXLR and most of the abilities and functions of the software are beyond me. (Remember; you don't have to know how your car engine works, in order to drive it from A to B).
I often need to add an overlay on an image for a video or side show, one overlay I have, (but was not appropriate for this video), is a 'title' slide I made with PIXLR. (It sits in the corner throughout the video, not unlike a watermark, but more prominent to attract the eye).
The overlay I have used here, is actually the video play button, (which is a little redundant here on YouTUbe I know), but I do use this technique to make the images, that go on my blogs and website, that link to other videos.
Without having the play button on the image, it is not always obvious to the visitor / viwer of the webpage, that there is a video waiting to be seen. The idea is to link the video, so that it opens in a new tab when your visitor click on the image with a play button on it.
When I make tutorial videos, there is usually only one or two reasons behind it.
The first is to help remind myself how-to do it again in the future. (Just making the video is like taking notes and studying the process, that is one way to learn new things).
The second reason I make these videos, then upload them, is if there is some extra benefit to the community and people who follow me.
The main benefit to myself is a bit of extra traffic here and to my website of course, but, directly, I hope to help you too.
