Telebit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telebit) introduced its proprietary Packetized Ensemble Protocol in the mid-1980s, which provided high speed, very resilient connections of up to 19200bps at a time when a fast common modem would be using V.22bis (2400bps).

Telebit Trailblazer+ -- FXS port on Cisco IAD2431-16FXS -- PRI port on VConsole 8BRI-U-MOD-2PRI -- Dialogic Diva 4BRI-8 in an Asterisk server -- VConsole 8BRI-U-MOD-2PRI -- Cisco IAD2431-16FXS -- Telebit Trailblazer+

The Asterisk server records the call, putting the caller in the left channel, and the answerer in the right.
