What Does Sustainability Mean To Us?
You hear the word sustainability a lot, but what does it really mean when building a bee hive? In this video, we share our deep commitment to protecting the environment while helping the bees.
It takes a lot of wood to build a beehive, and we never want to harm the forests in the process. Since we started in 2008, we have focused on sourcing the best materials. We proudly use lumber from sustainably managed forests that are Forest Stewardship Council certified. This is the absolute gold standard for sustainable forestry.
We build our hives using Western Red Cedar and Sugar Pine. Sugar Pine is the largest pine tree on earth, and its stable and lightweight wood is perfect for apiaries. Our Western Red Cedar is sourced locally right here in Oregon. It lasts a very long time, meaning you will not have to replace your equipment often. We even take the extra pieces of wood and repurpose them into beautiful new products.
