thanks for watching!
In mid-October, my cousin & I spent the weekend in Southern Vermont along the Appalachian & Long Trail. The trail gave us plenty of rain, fun water crossings, beautiful foliage, and fantastic trail towns.
While my gear was kept dry, my cousin found that his quilt and spare clothes had completely soaked thru - and with night temps expected to dip into the 30s, we were forced to make the call to get off trail.
Luckily, we were able to get a room at the Inn at Long Trail. The Inn is well-known among both locals and hikers, as it lies right on the trail and features cozy rooms (with fire places), complimentary breakfast, and McGrath's Irish Pub - an great spot to eat, drink and listen to some live Irish music.
The next day, rather than pick up where we left off, we decided it would be more fun to do some peak-bagging where we took in the most of the foliage and saw the first snowfall of the season too.
Once back at the car, we hopped into Rutland before driving over to a car camping site we had booked - where we had a roaring fire under some fantastic stars.
I was bummed to not do the trip we had planned, but sometimes it's okay to let the trail win. Nevertheless, it was a fun, albeit unexpected, adventure in Vermont.
