"Dark Odyssey" by JonathanGD (Extreme Demon) (Rebeat) [Geometry Dash]
I beat this level as my first extreme on September 17, 2021. This level is very special to me, since most of my playing career took place over the time it took Jonathan to build this level. I was actively watching his streams on making this, and constantly hoping that one day I would be able to beat it. The level took a long time to make, and during that whole process I was slowly but surely improving. I had beaten Leyak as my hardest when the level finally released, and I played it on and off, making some solid progress but not quite enough to get enough confidence to try to beat it. But I eventually I decided to just grind the level out, and after a week of doing so, around half a year after its release, I beat Dark Odyssey. I still had my small old desk at the time so I had no reliable way of recording it, but I still attempted, only for the recording to stop working before my completion attempt. But that doesn't matter anymore, since I've finally rebeaten it, and now I have my whole top 10 on video.
About the level itself: I LOVE this level. It's tied with White Space as my favorite level in the entire game. It's what Dark Travel tried to be and way more. Every part of it is so well crafted and you can tell Jonathan put his all into it. The first time I beat it I found a few parts kinda annoying because of my low CPS, but now having improved on that I found it incredibly fun and satisfying. When I was rebeating it, I died to the end a ton but didn't really mind because of how beautiful the level is. And to add on top of that, the song is probably one of my favorites of all time. All of this adds up to make this level an absolute masterpiece in my eyes, and I'm so glad to have been good enough to beat it.
