Have ever heard of Jacob's Sheep? Well until fairly recently, neither did I.
According to Jenna's website, the Jacob Sheep, a rare and ancient breed originating in the Middle East’s Levant around 4000 years ago, are renowned for their distinctive piebald patterns, knee-bands, and multiple horns. These heirloom sheep, linked to the biblical story of Jacob and Laban in Genesis 30, have a storied history, including being part of Jacob’s wages and later accompanying the Hebrews to Egypt, possibly contributing to the Passover sacrifice. Dispersed during the Babylonian exile, prophets like Jeremiah and Ezekiel lamented their loss and foretold their return as essential to redemption. The breed spread globally, reaching Britain in the 17th century and North America in the 20th century, before finally returning to Israel in 2016. Now, these unique sheep, complete with Israeli passports, are adapting to their ancestral homeland, embodying a living connection to biblical history and prophecy.
