CHASING DAYS // Buffalo OK, May 29, 2018 - Part I

Another great day in the Heaven: Tornado Alley!
Our day starts in Hays, KS: the cold front now dominates the north-west of Kansas, the sky is completely cloudy in the morning, it's chilly but the air is already drier than the previous day.
As a target of the day, the area around Dodge City is good, the road to take is not little and we immediately start driving.
Arriving in Dodge City we stop by Subway for a sandwich and checking both the SPC, GFS and HRRR models move all the harsh a little further south, in the Englewood area, on the OK/KS border, then we go down again until we get there!
While we are here at the radar something starts to be born in the Buffalo OK area, we believe it is our cell and we decide to point it: while we go down in fact the chaser convergence is very high, there will be at least 100/150 cars of thunderstorm hunters, so once again our thought is "We are in the right place!"
The cell enters Thunderstorm Warning, the Doppler sees a hint of rotation with a pronounced inflow, so we place ourselves practically under the mesocyclone, we will have been less than 1km from the place of the possible tornado touchdown even if a small updraft loaded with precipitation born just south/west (practically attached) of our cell worries me!
The first rain drops arrive, our cell is not yet in Tornado Warning and first we move south and then turn east into a muddy roat just to observe what seems to be the end of all hope for a tornado touchdown... (continues)
