When They Say You Should Play Piano Instead
Preparing for my album release show on September 23rd by playing an excerpt from one of the songs, called "Musica de la Noche."
While the album version does feature other musicians, my initial goal with this piece was to imitate the sound of a Latin jazz group entirely with two-handed tapping. The right-hand is playing the piano part in salsa music, usually called the "montuno" while the left-hand is playing the bass part, the "tumbao."
The piece is inspired by Afro-Cuban jazz, especially by the great pianist and composer Chucho Valdes.
