Old CRT monitors have almost all been recycled and are quite rare, but a few still crop up. These monitors are often found on balconies, in sheds, and other places. The most important question is, how much would you pay for such a monitor to make money on it? How much ferrous and non-ferrous metal does it contain?
In today's video, we'll be disassembling one such CRT monitor, the SAMSUNG SyncMaster 793DF. This was once an expensive monitor, and you'd expect it to contain a fair amount of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
All the primary copper in these monitors is found in the deflection system and in a special cable around the perimeter of the monitor (the demagnetization loop). Nine out of 10 monitors will contain copper in this cable, but there are exceptions, and aluminum is sometimes found, but this is extremely rare. The monitor contained copper.
This disassembly will demonstrate a simple method for disassembling these monitors, calculate the content of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and most importantly, is it worth taking them apart? Of course, taking equipment for disassembly for free is always worth it, but how much should you pay for it to remain profitable?
